Our eight-day river crossing safari takes you into the northern Serengeti and offers the best chance of seeing death-defying leaps and heart-wrenching near misses as you spend multiple nights and days in the world-famous Serengeti National Park.
Arrival at the Airport (JRO)
You will be picked up from the airport (Kilimanjaro International Airport/ Arusha Airport) and be transferred to your hotel in the town of your choice where you will rest and prepare for your safari.
Arusha to Tarangire National Park
You shall have breakfast at your hotel in the morning. You shall then pack up and drive to Tarangire National Park. A safari spot in the Northern Circuit of Tanzania. You will find very big herds of Elephant in this park. Big cats are also abundant. Your driver shall then pick up a nice spot along the Tarangire River for you to have lunch. After spending some valuable time game driving in the park you then shall head off driving towards Karatu where you will spend the night.
Tarangire National Park to Central Serengeti
We’ll take an early breakfast, as we’ve got a big day of exploration and adventure ahead of us! We will begin the day with a drive towards the Serengeti. Along the way, we will pass through the rainforests of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area where you might be lucky enough to glimpse Cape buffalo, Baboons, or even Elephants and Leopards in the dense undergrowth. Witness Africa’s iconic savannah landscape and be amazed by the sheer number of animals that roam these grassy plains. Before the sun sets we shall drive to our lodge for an overnight.
Central Serengeti to North Serengeti
After enjoying our breakfast at the lodge we start driving towards the Kogatende region (Northern Serengeti). This long drive to Kogatende gives you an opportunity to experience and admire the sheer size of the Park. You will also drive through diverse habitats and sceneries enhancing your experience. Upon arrival at the Kogatende region, we shall go out in search of both the Wildebeest Migration and the famous Big Five.
Full Day North Serengeti
After breakfast, we will start our game drive around the Kogatende area, searching around the kopjes looking for carnivores and the large migration groups that will be preparing to cross the Mara River into Kenya.
North Serengeti is home to large numbers of hippos and Nile crocodiles, the Mara River is the last major obstacle standing between the Wildebeest Migration and the relative safety of the Maasai Mara. If you’re patient and a little lucky, you may even get to witness the death-defying crossing itself where wildebeest and zebras brave the river’s currents and crocodiles in an attempt to reach safety on the opposite bank. After spending time catching up with these spectacular natural events we drive back to our lodge for an overnight.
North Serengeti to Central Serengeti
Today after breakfast we leave in the morning heading to Central Serengeti. We shall be game driving en route catching up with the Serengeti wildlife. Central Serengeti has abundant wildlife to enjoy all year long. We then shall head to our lodge before dusk to enjoy a well-deserved rest.
Central Serengeti to Ngorongoro to Lake Eyasi
We shall leave our lodge very early in the morning, driving towards Ngorongoro Crater. As we drive through the main road to Ngorongoro animals will still be littering the savannah outside your window seat. After 3 hours we shall reach the Crater where we will game drive. Our chances of spotting Rhinos down the crater are much higher. We then shall leave heading to Lake Eyasi where we shall spend the night.
Lake Eyasi to Arusha
Lake Eyasi will surely enhance your safari experience in Tanzania. Being different from all other destinations, we will get to experience the bush life of the Hadzabe and the Datoga people. These two tribes have remained unchanged for Generations. The hadzabe will demonstrate their hunting skills and dances, while the Datoga are famous Blacksmiths. We will spend time with these people before we leave Lake Eyasi heading to Karatu for an overnight.
It is our sincere hope you enjoyed your stay with us. Today we drive you back to the airport for your departure. Kibokoland Adventures hopes to see you again!
